A Play in a Manger is a nativity play told from the animals point of view. Unlike traditional nativity plays this time it is the animals who do the talking and the humans who have the non-speaking parts.
The play tells the nativity story in an entertaining and adult way without “watering down” any of the Christian doctrine. It is aimed at teens to adults and can be used effectively as an evangelical tool at Christmas.
The play is appropriate for both puppet teams as well as traditional drama teams. It is short enough to fit into a traditional Sunday service, but long enough, that with a few additions such as songs, readings or sermon points between the acts, it can be produced as a separate event within the church setting.
